Pink Hair And Spring Time

This morning, I dyed my hair pink. Not because I’m going through something. Not because I’m trying to look 30. And definitely not because anyone suggested it. I did it because it’s spring.
Because I’ll be traveling to see my granddaughters. Because my tribe of three knows pink means Gigi is coming.
And because when I catch my reflection in the mirror afterward, I smile differently.
Before the dye, my hair is its natural silver. And I love my silver. It’s earned and honest.
It’s every year I’ve lived, every lesson I’ve learned, every season I’ve survived. But every spring, something in me wants a little more color. Not to erase the silver.
Just to celebrate the season.
So, this morning, I opened the kit. Put on the gloves. Prepared the color and got to work.
There’s something oddly freeing about coloring your own hair. I have been doing this since I was 18 and yes, it can be messy. At times it’s imperfect and requires trust. You look a little wild mid-process and honestly? I kind of love that part.
It reminds me that reinvention doesn’t always look polished. Sometimes it looks like pink streaks and hope.
And then, the rinse, towel dry and the moment in the mirror. That’s when it happens. The smile. It’s not a “trying to be younger” smile. It’s not a “look at me” smile. It’s playful. And maybe… more like me.
I dye my hair pink every spring for a few simple reasons:
- Because it’s fun.
- Because it makes me feel playful.
- Because my granddaughters expect it.
- Because I can.
My tribe of three knows that when Gigi shows up with pink hair, adventure is coming.
They don’t see “67.” They see fun, they see Gigi, And I love when I walk in and they light up? Worth it. Every single time.
If you’re curious, here’s the exact kit I used this year:
It’s easy, temporary, and perfect for a little seasonal fun.

There’s something powerful about reaching this age and realizing. You don’t have to tone it down. You don’t have to blend in. You don’t have to “dress your age.” You get to choose your color. And, if that color happens to be pink this spring? Well so be it and I will see my girls in the airport.
