This week I’m packing a bag and heading out to see two very important little girls. My granddaughters. My buddy Morgan is turning two. And Teddy my little bright eyes  is turning one. Let me tell you something about being a Gigi. It’s one of the sweetest roles life gives you.

Watching Them Grow So Fast

Morgan is at that wonderful age where curiosity runs the show. She’s busy. Watching everything, learning everything and moving constantly. She reminds me so much of her mama at that age curious, observant, always figuring something out.

And then there’s Teddy. Sweet little Teddy turning one already. Her bright eyes taking in the world like everything is brand new… because to her, it is. One year. I still can’t quite believe it.

The Gift of Showing Up

Birthdays when they’re this little aren’t about presents. They’re about presence. Being there. Holding them. Watching them smash cake. Listening to the giggles. Seeing the way their little personalities are already starting to shine. Those moments pass faster than we realize. I know that now.

That’s why when my children started having children of their own and I may leave far away. I wanted to always make it a point to be there for their birthday and Christmas. If I can make extra trips, I will sneak those in as well.

But, to me these are important dates to me, and I wanted my girls to know that they were important to me as well.

When my own kids were little, life moved fast, sometime too fast. Work, schedules, responsibilities all the things that fill a young family’s life. Now I get to step back into the moment a little differently. Slower, more present and more grateful.

The Joy of Being Gigi

Being a Gigi is a little like getting a second chance to enjoy childhood. You notice things more. Tiny hands reaching for yours. The way they look up when you walk into the room. The sound of a toddler laugh that comes from deep in their belly. You don’t take those moments for granted. At least I don’t. Because time moves quickly.

One year becomes two. Two becomes five. And suddenly they’re heading to school. So, this week I’m soaking it in. Every hug. Every giggle. Every little moment.

What I’m Most Looking Forward To

I’m looking forward to simple things. Reading a book together. Watching Morgan run around the room. Holding Teddy and watching those bright eyes take in the world. And probably a little birthday cake too. Let’s be honest — Gigi deserves a slice.

Love That Grows with Time

There’s something beautiful about watching your family grow. You see pieces of your children in your grandchildren. A smile. A laugh. A stubborn streak. It reminds you that life keeps moving forward in the most wonderful way.

Morgan turning two. Teddy turning one. Two little milestones that feel very big to their Gigi’s heart.

Always Gigi

I’ll hug them tight before I leave. I always do. And I’ll tell them something I hope they remember as they grow.

Love you to the moon and back.

Always.
