Learning Pinterest & Amazon Affiliate Marketing at 67 — What I’ve Figured Out So Far
Affiliate Disclosure: This post contains Amazon affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. If you purchase through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
While I’m job searching, I’m also building something. Not because it’s easy. Not because I understand all of it yet. But because I refuse to stop learning. I’ve been diving into Pinterest strategy and Amazon affiliate marketing for about a month. It was my mom who had suggested I watch creator Lori Ballen.
Let me saw what she was saying just blew my mind. I know at that time I needed to try this, because it encompasses everything I love. Which is writing, storytelling, creating videos and photography.
I will have to admit there is a learning curve, but that’s okay. As you get older, we need to keep learning it keeps us sharp and curious.
What I have learned is that Pinterest isn’t just pretty pictures. It’s a search engine. That was my first big lightbulb moment. People go to Pinterest looking for solutions. Ideas. Inspiration. Products.
And if you create content that helps them? They click.
I’ve been learning:
• How to create better pin titles
• How to write descriptions that get found
• The importance of keywords
• Why consistency matters
• And how linking works
It’s not random posting. It’s strategic and I am currently working on building a foundation.
When I first signed up for Amazon’s affiliate program, I thought: “Oh, I’ll just post a link.” Nope. You must:
• Build content around the product
• Add value
• Be transparent
• Understand tracking
• Follow guidelines
It’s a business model. And I’m treating it like one.
What has surprised me is the technology is very familiar to me, because a lot of the applications and sites that are commonly used with Pinterest and Amazon. I have been familiar with but using it differently.
Yes, some younger creators may adapt faster. But discipline? Consistency? Work ethic? We’ve got that. You know the Baby Boomers, that’s us. And these are the traits needed to be successful.
And here’s what I’ve realized being 67 doesn’t disqualify me from learning digital skills or really enhancing skills we may already have. Just again, using them differently.
There are things that I am still trying to figure out, you know like:
• Figuring out SEO
• Understanding analytics
• Learning what converts
• Not getting discouraged when a pin flop
• Realizing it takes time
There’s no overnight success here. But I’m okay with that. Because I’m building something sustainable.
Some people might say “Why don’t you just focus on one thing?” But the thing is real life isn’t that simple. I’m actively job searching — that’s income now. I’m learning affiliate marketing — that’s potential income later. Diversifying at 67 is not a bad thing.
If You’re Thinking About Starting Here’s my advice:
- Start messy.
- Don’t wait to understand everything.
- Learn publicly.
- Stay consistent.
- Accept that growth takes time.
I’m not an expert. I’m a woman learning. And that’s powerful.
This season isn’t just about money. It’s also about proving to myself that I can still grow. Still pivot, build and dream.
Whether I land a leasing office job or build a strong affiliate income or both this chapter is about refusing to shrink. And if you’re reinventing too? Know you are not alone; there are a lot of digital warriors out there trying to figure this all out. And there are many that are succeeding and like I say…”Don’t let your age determine the size of your dream.”
