Apparently, we’re trendy again.
All the boho fashion trends after 60 that everybody is suddenly discovering? Some of us have been wearing them for years.
Tie-dye is back.
Fringe is back.
Flare jeans are back.
Crochet is back.
Flowy peasant tops are back.
Big jewelry is back.
And every time I see one of those lists announcing the latest “boho fashion trends,” I have to laugh.
Because some of us remember wearing this stuff the first time around.
And some of us never completely stopped.
I’m 68, and I’ve watched fashion go around this particular circle more than once.
Things are in.
Things are out.
Then twenty years later somebody puts a new name on them and suddenly they’re in again.
What younger generations might call a “boho aesthetic,” some of us just call getting dressed.
I still love denim.
I still love turquoise.
I still love a flowy top.
I still love clothes with texture and movement.
And I will happily throw on a fabulous kimono without checking whether Vogue has given me permission.
But I’m not trying to dress exactly like I did when I was young.
That woman had her turn.
I’m dressing the woman I am now.
So let’s talk about seven boho fashion trends making a comeback—and how women over 60 can wear them without looking like we’re headed to a 1970s costume party.
What We’re Covering Today
- Tie-Dye Isn’t Just Rainbow Swirls Anymore
- Flare Jeans Have Come Full Circle
- Fringe Is Moving Again
- Crochet Has Left the Afghan
- Flowy Peasant Tops Are Having Another Moment
- Statement Jewelry Is Getting Loud Again
- The Dramatic Layer Is Back
- Wearing Boho Fashion Trends After 60 the Second Time Around
- You Don’t Need All Seven
1. Tie-Dye Isn’t Just Rainbow Swirls Anymore
Let’s start with the obvious one.
Tie-dye.
The tie-dye I remember was loud.
Very loud.
There were rubber bands involved.
Buckets.
Dye everywhere.
And sometimes you weren’t entirely sure what you were going to get until you unwrapped the thing.
But here’s the thing: I never really stopped liking tie-dye.
My daughter-in-law actually made me a tie-dye shirt that says “Groovy Gigi,” and I wore it in Aruba. Because really, if you’re ever going to walk around wearing a shirt announcing to the world that you’re Groovy Gigi, Aruba seems like a pretty good place to do it. 😂

Groovy Gigi in Aruba — apparently I was ahead of the trend.
That’s what makes me laugh when I hear that tie-dye is “back.”
Back?
Some of us never left.
Today’s versions can be very different from the tie-dye we remember, though.
You’ll still find the bright rainbow tie-dye if that’s your thing, but I’m especially drawn to the more muted combinations:
- Rust and cream
- Olive and tan
- Turquoise and navy
- Black and gray
- Burgundy
- Soft blues
- Earth tones
- Watercolor-inspired patterns
Those versions are incredibly easy to wear.
Put a tie-dye blouse with your favorite jeans.
Throw a muted tie-dye cardigan over a tank.
Wear a tie-dye sweatshirt with denim and sneakers.
Or go all in with a flowy maxi dress.
The trick is letting the tie-dye be the interesting part of the outfit.
You don’t need twelve other things competing with it.
SHOP GROWN-UP TIE-DYE
Look for wearable tie-dye tops, cardigans, sweatshirts and dresses that mix easily with denim and basics already in your closet.
2. Flare Jeans Have Come Full Circle
This one really makes me smile.
For a while, skinny jeans ruled the world.
Then suddenly we were told skinny jeans were dead.
Now flares, bootcuts and wide-leg jeans are everywhere.
Those of us who remember bell-bottoms have seen this movie before.
And I’ll tell you something:
A good flare can look fabulous on a curvy woman.
The wider hem helps balance your proportions, and you don’t need a gigantic bell-bottom to get the effect.
Try a gentle flare or bootcut.
Add a flowy blouse.
A kimono.
Boots.
A great necklace.
Done.
And if you still love your skinny jeans?
Wear those too.
At 68, I’m not throwing away perfectly good pants because the internet had a meeting.
SHOP FLARES, BOOTCUT & BOHO DENIM
Look for comfortable denim with stretch and silhouettes that work for the body you’re dressing today.
3. Fringe Is Moving Again
Fringe is one of those details that immediately gives an outfit movement.
A fringe bag swings when you walk.
A fringed kimono moves in the breeze.
A little fringe on a jacket gives basic denim some attitude.
I love it.
But here’s my fringe philosophy:
One good fringe moment is usually enough.
Fringe jacket.
Fringe boots.
Fringe handbag.
Fringe earrings.
All together?
Now we’re getting dangerously close to a car wash.
Choose one.
Let it have its moment.
A fringe crossbody bag with jeans and a simple blouse is one of the easiest ways to bring a little boho into an outfit without changing your entire wardrobe.
SHOP FRINGE & BOHO ACCESSORIES
Try the trend with a fringe bag, vest, jacket, earrings or other textured accessory.
4. Crochet Has Left the Afghan
Crochet is everywhere again.
Tops.
Vests.
Cardigans.
Dresses.
Bags.
And I have to say, some of the newer pieces are beautiful.
What I particularly like about crochet is the texture.
Boho style isn’t only about wearing a lot of color.
Texture can make even a very neutral outfit interesting.
Imagine:
Jeans.
Cream tank.
Crochet vest.
Brown boots.
Turquoise jewelry.
Nothing complicated about that outfit.
But the mixture of denim, crochet, leather-look texture and jewelry gives it personality.
That’s what I love.
SHOP CROCHET & TEXTURED LAYERS
Look for crochet vests, lightweight cardigans, textured tops and woven accessories that add interest to simple outfits.
5. Flowy Peasant Tops Are Having Another Moment
This trend never really left my closet.
I love a flowy top.
Especially one with:
Embroidery.
Interesting sleeves.
Paisley.
Florals.
Texture.
Rust.
Turquoise.
A little drama.
And apparently I’m fashionable again.
Who knew?
But there’s one thing I want women—especially plus-size women—to remember:
Flowy and oversized are not the same thing.
You don’t have to hide underneath your clothes.
I want enough room for movement and comfort, but I still want some shape.
Look at where the shoulders hit.
Pay attention to the neckline.
Check the length.
Push the sleeves up.
Try a partial tuck.
Small styling changes can keep a loose blouse from overwhelming you.
SHOP FLOWY BOHO TOPS
Finds tops in prints, earth tones and easy silhouettes.
6. Statement Jewelry Is Getting Loud Again
For a while everything seemed to be about tiny necklaces and delicate jewelry.
Very pretty.
Very subtle.
Very…
Not me.
Give me turquoise.
Give me stacked bracelets.
Give me rings.
Give me earrings you can actually see.
I love jewelry because it’s one of the easiest ways to make basic clothing personal.
But I’ve also reached an age where some of my jewelry means much more than what I’m wearing.
There are pieces connected to people I love.
Memories.
Parts of my life.
That’s something no trend report can duplicate.
So mix the expensive piece with the inexpensive one.
Mix metals.
Layer necklaces.
Stack bracelets.
Wear the sentimental ring.
Your jewelry doesn’t need to match.
It needs to mean something to you.

7. The Dramatic Layer Is Back
Kimonos.
Dusters.
Long cardigans.
Flowy toppers.
Whatever fashion decides to call them this year, I love them.
A dramatic layer is one of the best wardrobe tricks I’ve learned because it lets basic pieces do double—or triple—duty.
Take:
Jeans + black tank.
That’s fine.
Now add a colorful kimono and jewelry.
Completely different outfit.
Take a basic black dress.
Add a long printed duster and boots.
Different outfit again.
This is why I’m not interested in constantly replacing my wardrobe.
I’d rather have pieces that change the personality of what I already own.
And yes, I will continue buying fabulous kimonos.
I have accepted this about myself.
SHOP KIMONOS, DUSTERS & CARDIGANS

Look for layers with color, embroidery, texture and interesting prints that work over basics already hanging in your closet.
Wearing Boho Fashion Trends After 60 the Second Time Around
Here’s what I think is different about wearing these styles now.
I’m not trying to look like my younger self.
I don’t want to.
She had her time.
She wore what worked for her body, her life and who she was then.
I’m dressing this version of me.
And that’s how I think we should approach returning trends after 60.
Don’t recreate the entire outfit you wore decades ago.
Borrow the part you still love.
Flare jeans + a modern blouse.
Tie-dye cardigan + a solid tank.
Crochet vest + contemporary denim.
Fringe bag + a simple dress.
Peasant blouse + straight-leg jeans.
Kimono + black pants and a tee.
Old meets new.
That’s when it gets interesting.
You Don’t Need All Seven
I know how these trend articles usually work.
They show you seven things and somehow make you feel like you need to buy seven things.
You don’t.
Start in your closet.
You may already own half of this stuff.
Pull out that kimono.
Find the flare jeans.
Dig out the turquoise necklace.
Look at the cardigan you forgot about.
Then maybe add one new piece that gives those things another life.
That’s a whole lot smarter than buying an entirely new wardrobe every time fashion changes its mind.

Gen Z Calls It a Trend. We Call It Our Closet.
I actually love seeing these styles come around again.
Every generation gets to discover them and make them their own.
That’s how fashion works.
But there’s something pretty great about being on the other side of 60 and realizing you don’t have to chase any of it.
We’ve already experimented.
We’ve already worn things we loved.
We’ve already worn some things we’d rather not discuss.
We’ve already figured out that trends eventually disappear and then come strolling right back through the door.
So this time around, I’m taking the parts I love and leaving the rest.
The flare jeans can stay.
The turquoise definitely stays.
The flowy tops aren’t going anywhere.
And you’d have to pry my kimonos out of my hands.
Because maybe these things aren’t really trends for some of us.
Maybe they’re simply pieces of who we’ve always been.
So when somebody tells you tie-dye, fringe and flare jeans are back?
Smile.
Stack the bracelets.
Throw on the fabulous kimono.
And tell them:
Honey, some of us never left.
