Luna’s Dream Patio: The Pup’s-Eye View (As Told By Me, Obviously)

Hi. It’s me. Luna. My human has been going on and on about her dream gazebo and Big Dog’s dream grill situation, and nobody — nobody — has asked me what I want. So I’m taking matters into my own paws today.

Look, I love my humans. I love patio pour nights. I love sitting near the cigar smoke even though I don’t fully understand why they like that smell so much. But if we’re building a dream patio around here, I have notes. A few notes. Okay, several notes.

First of All: Shade. Real Shade.

It is Arizona. It is summer. It is approximately one billion degrees outside by 10 a.m., and my fur coat does not come with a removable lining, in case anyone was wondering. I need actual shade, not the kind that moves with the sun and abandons me mid-nap like a traitor. A proper shade sail or one of those big umbrellas that doesn’t budge would change my whole summer. I’m not asking for much. Just permanent, reliable shade and maybe a little respect.

A Lounger That’s Actually Mine

I’ve noticed the humans get cushions, a sofa, a hammock chair situation that looks extremely comfortable. Meanwhile I’m expected to lie on a rug like a peasant. I would like a proper elevated dog bed — something with a little breeze underneath it, because lying directly on hot ground is, shockingly, not relaxing. Bonus points if it’s chewable-resistant because I cannot make any promises about that.

Water. Cold Water. Constantly.

This one is non-negotiable. A self-filling water station would be life-changing. I am tired of the bowl going empty at the exact moment I need it most, usually right after I’ve been very dramatically panting at someone for several minutes to make my point.

Something to Cool Off In, Because I Have Standards

I’ve seen the humans mention a kiddie pool once and then never follow through, and frankly that’s the kind of broken promise that really sticks with a dog. A proper splash pool would let me cool my paws off between supervising the grill and napping in my new elevated bed. I deserve options.

Safe Greenery, Please

My human wants planters everywhere for the “vibe.” Fine. Great. Love that for her. But I would like it on the record that I would appreciate pet-safe plants only, because I am a curious girl and I cannot be held responsible for what I might investigate with my mouth when nobody’s looking.

A Spot Near the Action, Always

Here’s the thing nobody needs to buy for me, but I will absolutely be requiring it anyway: a spot that’s close enough to the grill to catch any “accidental” drops from Big Dog, and close enough to my human’s chair that I can keep one eye on her cigar situation and one eye on snack potential at all times. This is just strategic positioning. I learned it myself.

My Final Professional Opinion

Look, the gazebo’s nice. The hammock chair seems cozy. The grill setup sounds like it’ll smell incredible, frankly. But none of it means anything if I don’t have shade, cold water, a proper bed, and a clear flight path to whatever falls off that grill. Get me those four things and I will personally supervise every single patio pour night from now until forever, tail included.

That’s all from me. Going to go nap dramatically near the door until someone notices I’m “suffering” in this heat.
