For most of my life, my closet looked the same.

Black jacket. Button-down blouse. Slacks.

I worked in a funeral home, so yes — it was expected. But if I’m being honest, it also represented me. I hid in black clothes for a long time. Not just because of work, but because it felt safe.

And somewhere along the way, I got used to that.

When Things Started to Shift

It didn’t happen overnight.

It started with my hair. Going pink felt like the first real permission I gave myself to experiment. It was small — but it wasn’t small at all.

From there, everything else started to change slowly.

Now I find myself reaching for color more.

And let me tell you — it feels good.

Being Plus Size and Figuring It Out

If you’re plus size, you already know…

  • Too tight in the wrong places
  • Too clingy
  • Or the opposite — shapeless

I’ve dealt with all of it.

If it clings, pulls, or makes me adjust it all day, I’m not wearing it.

What Actually Works for Me Now

I’m still figuring it out — but I know what feels right.

Flowy Tops

These changed everything.

They don’t cling
They move with you

Lightweight Button-Downs

Soft, relaxed, easy.

I wear them open
Or slightly tucked

Vintage & Retro T-Shirts

I love these.

They feel like personality without trying too hard.

What I Don’t Wear Anymore

This part is easy.

  • Anything clingy
  • Tight sleeves
  • Too short tops
  • Stiff fabrics

If I don’t feel comfortable immediately — it’s a no.

Comfort Is the Whole Point Now

When I feel good in what I’m wearing, I show up differently.

And that matters more than anything.

The Real Shift

At 60+, I’ve finally realized…

It’s not really about the clothes anymore — it’s about how I feel in them.

If You’re Figuring It Out Too…

Start small.

Try a different top.
Add a little color.

That’s how it started for me.

Final Thought

You don’t need permission to change your style.

Not at 60. Not at any size.

You just need to feel good in your own skin… and let the clothes follow.
