Is Gigi Unfiltered a Job – Or a Legacy?

I started my YouTube channel in 2023 as “Gigi’s on a Budget ” . My Mom is a YouTuber and saw channels that were saving money by way of saving challenges. I thought it was a fun way to keep me focused and accountable. As I was now saving for my stepson’s destination wedding in Aruba.

Which BigDog and I attended and had a great time. But after the wedding I kept saving. Continued to create videos. Which I found to be a creative outlet as I enjoy photography and making videos.

But I noticed my channel and voice were changing to include other aspects of my life, such as the passing of my dad, Luna, Happy Planners and the messy joys of life.

So, a name changed was needed and this is where Gigi’s Unfiltered came to be my new renamed channel. I wanted to be honest about whatever truths were going to show up.

Now here’s the real question I’m asking out loud: I’m 67. I still save. And now looking for a job. Does this mean my channel becomes my full-time job? Or is it a legacy channel for my girls: Charlie, Alex and Teddy?

I want to be honest about the answers, because this isn’t just vanity — it’s about life and how I want to spend my time. So, let’s see what I think it would entail to become a full time YouTuber.

I understand as a full-time creator I would now have to see my channel as running a small business. For someone my age, that means what?

Maybe it means the following:

  • Hours: planning, filming, editing, thumbnails, captions, responding to comments, and sponsor outreach. Even simple videos often take 4–10 hours if you do everything yourself.
  • Money reality: ad revenue is unpredictable. Most creators have mix income streams — ads, sponsorships, affiliate links, memberships, or a small product — and many don’t replace a steady paycheck overnight.
  • Energy & Health: this work can be tiring. Guarding energy and setting pace matters more than chasing every trend.
  • Time to grow months or years, not days. Consistency helps, but voice and trust are what keep people coming back.

But can being a 67-year-old female be an advantage, not a liability? I know that you can’t say the word “older” and fool yourself into thinking you have less to offer. You have something younger creators don’t — a lifetime of stories, small victories, and the kind of honesty that builds real relationships.

I have stories about saving for Aruba, raising kids, divorce, remarried, looking for work after 60, life with BigDog, Luna storis, travels, retired, unretired and so many others.

The thing is I may have created my channel initially to save money. But it has continued to evolve. As I started to see my channel as something I could leave for my girls.

But if this becomes my job, it is now on my terms: keep the voice, protect my time, and be mindful with money.

Which in turn can still become my legacy channel in a sense as well. Because my girls can be witnesses to my highs and lows and know that Gigi was still rocking it over 60. And that is a win for my girls to see.

So, let’s pull up a chair. Tell me: would you watch weekly videos from me? What do you want more of — recipes, looking for work over 60, healthy lifestyle for over 60, more about Luna & dog life, or honest talks about life after 60?

Let me know and until next time…chau
