Why I Finally Started Wearing the Jewelry I Always Wanted After 60
Jewelry after 60 has become one of my favorite ways to express who I am — and honestly, that surprised me.

For most of my working life, jewelry wasn’t something I thought much about.
I worked in professional offices. From a law firm, a rape crisis center, the Housing Authority. Later in a funeral home. My wardrobe was neat, conservative, and practical because my job required it. I wasn’t trying to make a statement. I was trying to be professional.
Somewhere along the way, I convinced myself that simple was the only option.
But retirement has a funny way of asking hard questions.
Who are you now?
What do you actually like?
If nobody handed you a dress code, what would you wear?
For me, those questions led me somewhere unexpected…
Jewelry.
My Style Changed Because My Life Changed
When I first retired, I wasn’t trying to reinvent my wardrobe.
Honestly, I was trying to reinvent myself.
After years of schedules, responsibilities, and taking care of everyone else, I finally had permission to ask what made me happy.
That’s when I started paying attention to boho style.
Layered necklaces.
Stacked bracelets.
Statement earrings.
Natural stones.
Pieces with texture.
Pieces that looked like they had stories to tell.
I realized they matched the woman I was becoming.
Not polished.
Not perfect.
Just…me.
Style Isn’t About Age
One of the biggest myths women hear is that after a certain age we’re supposed to become invisible.
Wear smaller earrings.
Less color.
Nothing too bold.
Nothing too trendy.
I’ve decided I’m no longer interested in those rules.
At 68, I’m having more fun getting dressed than I did at 38.
Not because I’m trying to look younger.
Because I’m finally dressing like myself.
Jewelry Can Tell Your Story
One thing I’ve always loved is jewelry that means something.
Some pieces remind me of my dad.
Others remind me of my kids.
One of my favorite necklaces even holds my children’s baby teeth.
That might sound unusual to some people, but every time I wear it, I’m carrying a little piece of our family’s story with me.
Fashion doesn’t have to follow trends.
Sometimes it simply needs to remind us who we are.
You Don’t Have to Change Everything Overnight
If you’re thinking about refreshing your style after 50 or 60, don’t feel like you need a completely new wardrobe.
Start small.
Maybe it’s a pair of earrings you’ve always admired.
Maybe it’s stacking bracelets.
Maybe it’s a necklace that makes you smile every time you catch it in the mirror.
One little change has a funny way of leading to another.
Confidence grows the same way.
One piece at a time.
My Biggest Lesson
This isn’t really a story about jewelry.
It’s a story about permission.
Permission to stop dressing for everyone else’s expectations.
Permission to stop worrying about what women “our age” are supposed to wear.
Permission to become curious again.
If you’ve been waiting to try something different…
Don’t wait.
Life after 60 isn’t about becoming less.
It’s about becoming more of who you’ve always been.
