At exactly 6:00 a.m., every single morning, Luna is up.
Not 6:15.
Not “when she feels like it.”
Not after I’ve had coffee.
It is 6:00 a.m. sharp, and this little dog expects the day to begin.
And because Luna is a tiny lady with very firm standards, the very first thing on her agenda is going outside.
No coffee first.
No scrolling.
No easing into the day.
Just Luna looking at me like:
“Ma’am. It is time.”
There’s a certain sound small dogs make when they’re ready. It’s not loud. It’s not dramatic. It’s just persistent enough that ignoring it is no longer an option.
She does her little stretch — what I call her yoga poses — hops out of bed, and gives me that look like she is personally responsible for keeping this whole house on schedule.
So up we go.
Before the coffee grinder.
Before the kitchen light.
Before the rest of the day starts asking for things.
First stop is the backyard.
And I have to admit, the air feels different at 6 a.m. Cooler. Quieter. Still. Years ago, when I was rushing off to work, I never paid much attention to that hour. Now I do.
Luna does too.
She steps outside with purpose. This is not casual wandering. This is business. She handles what needs handling, then pauses with her nose up and ears alert like she’s checking in with the morning.
And in those quiet few minutes, I do the same.
No noise.
No expectations.
Just me and Luna greeting the day.

The Quiet Routine I Didn’t Know I Needed
One of the things Luna has taught me is that routine does not have to be complicated to be powerful.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know I talk a lot about reinvention after 60. What I don’t always say out loud is that routine is what keeps reinvention steady.
Luna’s structure keeps me structured.
She doesn’t skip her morning responsibilities. She doesn’t overthink them. She just gets up and starts.
There is something about that simplicity that speaks to me in this season of life.
At 67, my mornings look different than they did at 37. They are slower now. More intentional. Less rushed. But they still matter.
Maybe even more.
Because this chapter of life is not about winding down. It is about building wisely.
And honestly, some of the best lessons I’ve learned lately have come from a little black dog with hound ears and absolutely no interest in hitting snooze.

Breakfast Is Serious Business
Once we come back inside, Luna heads straight to the kitchen.
No detours.
No distractions.
No wasting time.
She goes directly to her spot and waits for breakfast, polite most of the time, because by then this little dog is officially famished.
Breakfast is her favorite part of the day.
Her bowl goes down. Fresh water gets poured. And just like that, the next item on her agenda is complete.
I’ve learned that feeding her is about more than just pouring kibble into a bowl. It is one of those small daily acts that quietly says:
You are cared for. You are loved. You matter here.
And that matters to me too.
Even the water gets refreshed properly. I don’t just top it off. I rinse the bowl and give her clean water every single morning.
Fresh bowl.
Fresh water.
Fresh start.
Small dogs may be tiny, but they need consistency. They notice changes. They rely on routine.
Truthfully, so do I.
Luna’s Breakfast Setup
This is one of those little routines that becomes part of everyday life fast. A good bowl setup, fresh water, and simple basics can make mornings easier for both you and your pup.

A Few Things That Make Luna’s Mornings Easier
Over time, there are a few dog items that just naturally become part of the routine. Not because they’re trendy. Not because they’re cute on Amazon. But because they actually make daily life smoother.
For Luna, that starts with comfort.
Her bed is where the day begins. It’s where she stretches, blinks herself awake, and prepares to take charge of the household. A cozy little dog bed matters more than people think, especially for a small dog who loves her routines.
Then there are the food and water bowls. Again, not exciting in theory, but when you use them every single day, you notice what works and what doesn’t.
And of course there’s the toy situation.
Because after breakfast, Luna is ready to play.

Movement Matters — Even in Small Ways
After breakfast, Luna has energy.
And for such a little dog, I mean a lot of energy.
Most small dogs do not need marathons, but they do need movement. Just like we do.
So we do a little light play.
A few tosses of her favorite squeaky toy.
A quick loop around the yard.
Sometimes a little chasing around the living room.
Nothing dramatic. Just enough movement to wake up the body and soften the mood of the morning.
And I’ve noticed something over time:
When Luna moves, I move.
Her little routine reminds me that motion creates momentum. Sometimes the hardest part of the day is simply getting started, and Luna never seems to struggle with that part.
She just goes.
She prances.
She shakes her toy like she conquered something enormous.
She looks proud of herself.
And somehow that makes me smile before the coffee even kicks in.
There is something powerful about joy before caffeine.
Our Favorite Kind of Morning Play
A simple toy, a little floor space, and five or ten minutes of play can change the whole feel of the morning.

Why This LittleRoutine Matters So Much
Once Luna is settled — fed, exercised, and content — the house shifts.
That’s when BigDog grinds the coffee beans.
That’s when the day officially begins.
That’s when the rest of life starts rolling in.
But Luna?
She has already completed her most important tasks of the morning.
Outside.
Breakfast.
Movement.
Play.
Contentment.
There is something beautifully simple about that.
And when I step back and really look at it, I think that is why her little 6 a.m. routine means so much to me.
It looks small.
But small routines build strong foundations.
And whether I’m writing, learning affiliate marketing, tending to my home, or figuring out reinvention one faithful day at a time, it all starts with one steady morning.
And one little dog who refuses to let me drift through it half-awake.
Lessons From Luna’s 6 A.M. Agenda
This tiny pup reminds me of the same truths every single morning:
- Start the day with purpose
- Handle what needs handling
- Nourish yourself
- Move your body
- Find joy early
- Stay consistent
Not bad wisdom from 17 pounds of black fur.

I’ve shared before how much this little dog has changed my days in ways I never expected, and that part still feels true every morning.

Final Thoughts
If you’re in a season of reinvention too, maybe the answer is not some massive overhaul.
Maybe it is one steady routine.
One consistent action.
One faithful step in the morning before the world gets noisy.
And maybe the smallest member of the household is the one showing you how to do it.
Luna may be tiny, but her 6 a.m. agenda has a lot to teach.
And around here, we just follow along.
