When Monday Pretends to Be Friday

I woke up late—the kind of late that feels earned. The kind of late that whispers, Relax, it’s Friday.
Only it wasn’t Friday.
It was Monday. 🙄

Somehow my brain skipped an entire week and landed straight in weekend mode. No alarm panic. No rush. Just vibes. By the time reality tapped me on the shoulder, I was already dressed and committed to the day—so BigDog and I headed out to knock out errands like responsible adults pretending we had a plan.

And honestly? It wasn’t bad.

Errands hit differently when you think it’s Friday. You’re less annoyed. More patient. You don’t rush strangers in your head. You just roll with it. BigDog was in good spirits, I was feeling oddly calm, and we moved through the day like two people who had nowhere else to be—which, for a Monday, felt rebellious.

By the time we got home, the universe seemed to agree that the mistake deserved a reward.

I poured a bourbon. Not a splash—a proper pour.
Lit a cigar. Slow and intentional.
BigDog claimed his spot on the lounge like he paid the mortgage.

The evening settled in quietly. No agenda. No guilt. Just the sound of a lighter flicking, the first sip of something warm and familiar, and a dog who knows exactly when life is good. We sat outside as the day softened, the smoke curled into the air, and Monday finally loosened its grip.

Was it technically a work night? Yes.
Did I care? Not even a little.

Because sometimes life gives you a mix-up—a small one, harmless—and instead of correcting it, you lean in. You let Monday borrow Friday’s energy. You sit with your dog, sip your bourbon, smoke your cigar, and remind yourself that not every moment needs to be optimized.

Some days are just meant to be lived, even when the calendar says otherwise.

And honestly?
That Monday didn’t stand a chance. 🥃🐾
