I’m 68, and somewhere along the way I stopped asking whether I was too old to wear something.

Now I ask better questions.

Do I like it?

Am I comfortable in it?

Does it still feel like me?

If the answers are yes, we’re in business.

And that’s probably why I keep coming back to boho style.

I love clothes with movement. I love interesting jewelry. I love a little hippie mixed with something modern. I love a funky pair of glasses, a great jacket, wide-leg pants, a kimono or something unexpected that makes an outfit look like it belongs to the woman wearing it.

But I’ve also figured something out:

Your entire outfit doesn’t have to be boho to look boho.

Sometimes the best outfits start with ordinary foundation pieces—a pair of jeans, black pants, a striped shirt, a simple blouse or a jacket—and become boho because of how you put everything together.

That’s what these 30 boho outfit ideas for women over 60 are all about.

Real clothes.

Real bodies.

Things we can actually sit down in.

And outfits that don’t require us to pretend we’re 35—or dress like somebody’s idea of what 68 is supposed to look like.

Let’s get dressed.

My One Rule for Boho Style After 60

Actually, I don’t have many rules.

But I do have this one:

Let something be the star.

If you’re wearing fabulous striped pants, let them talk.

If you’re wearing a colorful kimono, everything underneath doesn’t need to compete with it.

If you’re wearing a funky jacket, you don’t necessarily need every piece of jewelry you own.

Boho doesn’t have to mean more.

Sometimes it’s jeans, a simple blouse and one fantastic necklace.

That’s enough.

30 Boho Outfit Ideas for Women Over 60

1. Relaxed Jeans + Oversized Striped Shirt

Let’s start with one of the easiest outfits on this entire page.

Relaxed jeans and an oversized striped shirt.

The Cicy Bell green-and-blue striped shirt I found is exactly the kind of piece I’m talking about. It isn’t technically “boho.”

Good.

Wear it loose or open over a tank, roll the sleeves, add a pendant or layered necklaces and throw on some comfortable sandals.

Now it feels like you.

2. Black Wide-Leg Pants + Colorful Kimono

This may be the easiest boho trick I know.

Black pants.

Black or neutral tank.

Fantastic kimono.

Done.

Those black wide-leg Cicy Bell pants we found make a perfect foundation because they don’t fight with whatever you put on top.

That’s when I’d bring in one of my Zeagoo kimonos.

3. Cream Overalls + Simple Tee + Boots

Now we’re having some fun.

Those cream wide-leg overalls immediately caught my attention because they’re a little unexpected.

Put a simple tee underneath—white, floral, graphic, whatever feels like you—and add ankle boots.

Then jewelry.

Not seventeen pieces.

Just enough.

This is the kind of outfit that says boho without having a single piece labeled “bohemian.”

CICY BELL CREAM WIDE-LEG OVERALLS

4. Brown Maxi Skirt + Soft Cream Top

That brown maxi skirt was another one I knew immediately belonged here.

Brown is beautiful for boho because it works with cream, denim, turquoise, rust, olive and just about every warm color I love.

Pair it with a soft cream tee or blouse and boots.

Then add one long necklace.

5. Striped Wide-Leg Pants + Simple Tee

If you’re nervous about patterned pants, this is how I’d wear them.

Let the pants be the whole damn story.

The striped wide-leg pair we found doesn’t need a complicated top.

Simple tee.

Maybe denim over your shoulders.

Comfortable shoe.

Interesting earrings.

That’s it.

CICY BELL STRIPED WIDE-LEG PANTS

6. Pinstripe Jacket + Jeans + Graphic Tee

This is one of my favorite finds because it’s not what you’d expect in a boho article.

A pinstripe jacket?

Absolutely.

Especially that funky asymmetrical Cicy Bell one we found—and bonus, that particular piece goes through XXXL.

Skip the office blouse.

Put a graphic tee underneath it.

Add relaxed jeans, boots or loafers, and jewelry.

Now we’re somewhere between boho, artistic and eclectic.

Which is exactly where I like to be.

CICY BELL PINSTRIPE JACKET

7. Burgundy Tee + Jeans + Long Necklace

Sometimes boho is barely there.

I liked the little ruffled edge on the burgundy Cicy Bell tee because it gives a basic top just enough detail.

Add jeans and a long necklace.

Maybe boots.

Maybe a kimono if you’re feeling it.

But you don’t need one.

CICY BELL BURGUNDY RUFFLE-HEM TOP

8. Black Dress + Boots + Statement Jewelry

Every boho closet needs something black.

The black mixed-fabric dress we found is interesting because the top has texture while the skirt has movement.

I’d skip the delicate heels.

Give me ankle boots, a long pendant and funky sunglasses.

Completely different dress.

9. Pink Blouse + Relaxed Jeans + Jewelry

Pink doesn’t have to be sweet.

The relaxed pink blouse we found would look completely different with loose jeans, layered jewelry and a worn-looking brown bag.

That’s why I love foundation pieces.

You decide who they become.

CICY BELL PINK BLOUSE

10. Floral Tee + Wide-Leg Pants

Here’s another ridiculously easy outfit.

Floral tee.

Wide-leg pants.

Sandals.

The floral print brings softness while the wider pants keep everything relaxed.

I’d probably add a denim layer when the weather allows.

CICY BELL FLORAL TEE

11. Neutral Puff-Sleeve Blouse + Jeans + Turquoise

That neutral short-sleeve blouse we found is exactly the kind of piece I’d use as a blank canvas.

Jeans.

Neutral blouse.

Turquoise-style necklace.

Done.

The little sleeve detail keeps it from looking like another plain button-up.

CICY BELL NEUTRAL BLOUSE

12. Taupe Vest + Wide-Leg Pants + Boho Accessories

This one lives right between California Casual and boho, and I’m here for it.

The taupe vest and wide-leg pants are clean and simple.

That’s when I’d add personality.

Long necklace.

Stack of bracelets.

Interesting sunglasses.

Textured bag.

You don’t have to start with boho clothes to end up with boho style.

13. Maxi Dress + Denim Jacket + Boots

This combination earns its place because it works.

The dress gives you movement.

The denim gives you structure.

The boots keep it grounded.

And if you’re somewhere like Arizona where the afternoon suddenly decides it’s summer again?

Take off the jacket.

14. Graphic Tee + Maxi Skirt

This is how I keep a maxi skirt from getting too precious.

Wear the T-shirt.

Seriously.

A graphic tee and flowing skirt have just enough contradiction to make the outfit interesting.

And yes, sneakers work.

15. Cream Cropped Jacket + Jeans + Print

The little cream textured jacket we found could go very polished very quickly.

So I’d mess with it.

Put a printed or graphic top underneath.

Add jeans.

Add something unexpected—a big ring, funky glasses or boots.

Now it isn’t trying so hard to behave.

Much better.

CICY BELL CREAM TEXTURED JACKET

16. Wide-Leg Jeans + Boho Blouse

This is a formula worth remembering.

When your blouse has embroidery, print or movement, you don’t need complicated pants.

Relaxed wide-leg jeans do the job.

This is where I’d mix Cicy Bell denim with one of our more obviously boho Zeagoo tops.

CICY BELL WIDE-LEG JEANS

ZEAGOO BOHO BLOUSE

17. Soft Sweater + Printed Maxi Skirt

Boho doesn’t disappear in fall.

A soft sweater with a printed maxi skirt gives you warmth without giving up movement.

Add boots and you’re done.

18. Jeans + White Blouse + Statement Necklace

I want this one in here because it proves how little you actually need.

Jeans.

White blouse.

Fantastic necklace.

That necklace could be turquoise, mixed metal, beads or something with an artisan feel.

Let it be the star.

HEYHAPPINESS STATEMENT JEWELRY

19. Chambray Shirt + Printed Maxi Skirt

Another easy formula.

A printed maxi skirt has plenty going on.

A chambray shirt calms everything down.

Wear it tucked, half-tucked or open over a tank.

And before anybody tells you there’s one “flattering” way to wear it:

Wear the damn shirt the way you like it.

20. Monochromatic Neutrals + One Interesting Accessory

Boho doesn’t require color everywhere.

Cream.

Oatmeal.

Taupe.

Tan.

Then one great bag or necklace.

The quiet outfit actually makes that one interesting piece stand out more.

21. Peasant Blouse + Flare Jeans

There’s a little 1970s hiding here.

I’m perfectly fine with that.

A soft peasant blouse and flare jeans give you movement without turning into a costume.

Add a crossbody and boots.

22. Relaxed Jumpsuit + Artisan Jewelry

One piece.

Minimal effort.

Add jewelry and comfortable sandals.

That’s my kind of math.

23. Long Cardigan + Midi Dress

For cooler weather, put a soft long cardigan over a midi dress.

You get texture, movement and warmth without needing six accessories.

24. Denim Layer + Patterned Pants

Remember those striped pants?

Here’s another way to use them.

Add a tank and denim jacket.

That’s why I like buying foundation pieces that can make more than one outfit.

25. Black Pants + White Shirt + Big Jewelry

This is another outfit you probably already own.

Black pants.

White shirt.

Then give it some Gigi.

Big earrings.

Bracelets.

Funky glasses.

Maybe a textured bag.

26. Boho Dress + Sneakers

Yes.

Dress.

Sneakers.

Together.

If I can’t comfortably walk somewhere in an outfit, that matters to me a lot more now than whether somebody thinks the shoe is “correct.”

27. Brown Maxi Skirt + Denim Jacket

Let’s use that brown skirt again.

Cream tee.

Brown maxi.

Denim jacket.

Turquoise jewelry.

This may be one of my favorite outfits on the page.

28. Simple Outfit + Great Sunglasses

Sometimes the accessories really are the outfit.

Start simple.

Jeans and blouse.

Neutral dress.

Black pants and tee.

Then put on glasses with some personality.

29. Travel Boho: Soft Pants + Tank + Layer

This is how I want travel clothes to work.

Soft pants.

Simple top.

Layer I can take off.

Comfortable shoes.

Crossbody.

No outfit gymnastics in the airport bathroom.

30. Wear the Outfit That Looks Like YOU

This one doesn’t have a formula.

Maybe yours is cream overalls and boots.

Maybe it’s a maxi dress.

Maybe it’s black pants and a crazy kimono.

Maybe it’s jeans and turquoise.

Maybe you love fringe.

Maybe you hate fringe.

Maybe you’re happiest in neutrals.

Maybe subtle has never once entered the conversation.

Good.

Because after 60, I don’t think our job is to finally learn how to dress “correctly.”

I think our job is to become increasingly comfortable dressing like ourselves.

If 30 Outfits Feel Like Too Much, Remember These 5

You don’t need 30 formulas.

Remember these:

Interesting top + jeans + jewelry

Simple base + statement layer

Maxi skirt + basic top + casual jacket

Wide-leg pants + simple top + interesting accessory

Dress + comfortable shoes + one great finishing piece

That’s enough.

How I Keep Boho From Looking Like a Costume

I love boho.

But sometimes I can look in the mirror and think:

Okay, Gigi. Pick a lane.

If the kimono is fabulous, I let it be fabulous.

If I’m wearing patterned pants, I don’t need the top fighting for attention.

If I’ve got on big earrings, I may not need three necklaces too.

That’s my version of balance.

Not an age rule.

Just knowing when the outfit feels finished.

Let’s Talk About Sizing

This matters to me.

Most of the Cicy Bell pieces I’ve been finding are available through XXL, although sizing varies by item.

We also found an occasional piece available through XXXL, including that funky pinstripe jacket.

I’ll point those out when I find them.

But I’m not going to call a retailer “plus-size inclusive” just because it carries a couple of larger sizes.

And I’m not going to build Style After 60 as though everybody stops at XL or XXL.

When we need a broader size range, I’ll look elsewhere and give you another option.

Always check the individual garment’s size chart before ordering.

Plus-Size Boho Doesn’t Mean Hiding

Can we retire this idea?

Flowy does not automatically mean flattering.

And fitted does not automatically mean forbidden.

You can wear wide-leg pants.

You can wear prints.

You can wear a maxi skirt.

You can wear a fitted tank under a kimono.

You can show your waist.

You can ignore your waist.

You can wear the damn belt.

The goal isn’t to create an optical illusion that makes your body disappear.

The goal is to put clothes on that body and think:

Yep. That’s me.

More Style After 60

If you landed here because you’re a free spirit who still wants to look like herself, there’s plenty more:

One Last Thing

If you’ve spent years wondering whether something is “appropriate for your age,” I have a different experiment.

Put it on.

Look in the mirror.

Not the mirror you used at 35.

Not your mother’s mirror.

Not the fashion industry’s mirror.

Yours.

Does the woman looking back at you look like herself?

Is she comfortable?

Does she feel interesting?

Does she feel like going somewhere?

Then I’d say you’ve got yourself an outfit.

I’m 68.

I still like boho.

I still like a little hippie.

I like funky glasses, big earrings, wide-leg pants, flowing clothes and pieces with personality.

And apparently now I like pinstripe jackets and cream overalls too.

Who knew?

That’s the fun part.

We’re still allowed to surprise ourselves.

And I have absolutely no intention of becoming quieter just because I got older.

Neither should my closet.

Don’t let your age determine the size of your dreams—or the size of your style.
