There was a time when evenings meant rushing from one thing to the next.

Dinner.

Laundry.

Work the next morning.

A hundred little things still waiting to get done.

These days, I’ve learned something different.

One of the best parts of my day starts when I step onto our patio.

BigDog settles into his chair with one of his favorite cigars. Luna quickly claims the coolest spot she can find. I usually have a glass of iced tea or sparkling water in my hand, and for a little while, life slows down.

Our Arizona sunsets have become part of my daily routine.

I call it my Patio Pour.

It isn’t really about the drink.

It’s about creating a moment.

Now I realize comfort is what makes me stay outside long enough to actually enjoy the evening.

At 68, I’ve realized something I wish I’d understood years ago.

Peace doesn’t always require a vacation.

Sometimes it’s already waiting for you just outside your back door.
