There was a time when getting dressed wasn’t really a decision.
For years, I worked in a funeral home where black wasn’t just a wardrobe choice—it was the uniform. Every morning I reached into the closet knowing exactly what I was going to wear. It was practical, professional, and part of who I was during that chapter of my life.
Now my mornings look a little different.
This week, BigDog and I have a movie date planned, and I found myself standing in front of the bed deciding between jewelry, shoes, and an outfit that actually felt like me.
That may not sound like a big deal, but it is.
More Than Picking an Outfit
As I’ve been building this new chapter of life after retirement, I’ve realized something.
Finding my style isn’t really about clothes.
It’s about giving myself permission to be seen again.
It’s about discovering that I still enjoy putting together an outfit, trying a different necklace, or asking, “Do these earrings work?”
After spending years dressing for a job, I’m finally learning how to dress for the woman I am today.
We Don’t Stop Wanting to Feel Beautiful
One of the things I talk about in this video is something I think many women over 60 quietly understand.
We don’t suddenly stop wanting to feel attractive because we get older.
We don’t stop enjoying date nights.
We don’t stop wanting to laugh, feel confident, or walk into a room thinking, “I feel pretty good today.”
Age doesn’t erase those feelings.
If anything, I think we appreciate them even more.
Being Valued Starts With You
One thought kept coming back to me while I was filming this video.
Being valued doesn’t begin with someone else noticing us.
It begins when we show up as ourselves.
When we stop apologizing for our age.
When we stop believing we’re “too old” to try something new.
When we choose the necklace, wear the lipstick, say yes to date night, and remember that we’re still writing our story.
That’s the kind of beauty I want to celebrate.

In this week’s video, I’m sharing:
- My movie date outfit.
- The jewelry I almost wore (and what I finally chose).
- Why this journey from funeral black to boho has become about much more than fashion.
- A conversation about confidence, reinvention, and feeling valued after 60.
I’d love for you to watch and tell me what you think.
Do you still enjoy getting dressed up for a date night, or have you found yourself choosing comfort more often these days?
I’d love to hear your story in the comments. One of my favorite parts of this community is hearing how each of us is finding our own way through this beautiful season of life.
Until next time…
Give yourself some grace, keep showing up as yourself, and remember—you ain’t got time to wait, baby.
