There was a time when my closet was almost entirely black.
Working in the funeral industry meant dressing respectfully and professionally every single day. Black dresses. Black shoes. Black jackets. Black everything. It was part of the job, and I wore it proudly. But when that chapter of my life closed, something unexpected happened. I realized I didn’t really know what my personal style was anymore. So, I am currently experimenting.
More color.
More comfort.
More personality.
What I found is that I’m being drawn to boho-inspired fashion. Not the festival-style boho with fringe everywhere but relaxed, everyday pieces that feel comfortable, effortless, and a little creative. These are three outfits I’m loving right now.

Outfit 1: Classic Boho with Jeans
This outfit is probably the closest thing to traditional boho style in my closet right now.
Pieces
• Paisley bell sleeve blouse
• Dark wash straight leg jeans
• Neutral wedge sandals
The paisley print and flowy sleeves give the outfit that classic boho look, while the dark wash jeans keep it grounded and wearable.
This is the type of outfit I would wear for:
• lunch with friends
• casual dinner
• a patio evening with a glass of wine
The wedges elevate the look just enough without sacrificing comfort.

Outfit 2: Relaxed Summer Boho
Most days I want something simple and easy. This outfit leans into a relaxed summer style that still has a hint of boho.
Pieces
• Retro graphic casual tee
• Dark cuffed Bermuda shorts
• Mint canvas sneakers
The canvas sneakers add that natural texture that works beautifully with boho style.
This outfit is perfect for:
• running errands
• visiting the farmers market
• a warm afternoon walk
It’s simple, comfortable, and still feels pulled together.

Outfit 3: Retro Casual With Personality
This outfit might be my favorite because it shows a little personality.
Pieces
• 80s Baby 90s Made Me graphic tee
• Distressed denim Bermuda shorts or Dark cuffed denim Bermuda shorts
• Rope strap sandals
Graphic tees are such an easy way to add personality to an outfit, and this one makes me smile, as I just love the retro graphic t-shirts. They bring a little nostalgia into the mix while keeping things casual and comfortable.
This is my go-to outfit for:
• coffee runs
• casual outings
• travel days
• weekend errands
Sometimes fashion should just be fun.
Rediscovering My Style After the Funeral Home
Leaving the funeral industry meant more than just changing careers. It meant rediscovering who I was outside of that world.
For years, dressing professionally meant wearing black almost every day. It was part of honoring families and respecting the work. But stepping away from that environment gave me the freedom to explore style again. I started asking myself simple questions:
What colors make me happy?
What clothes feel comfortable?
What outfits feel like me?
Boho-inspired style turned out to be the perfect fit.
It’s relaxed.
It’s creative.
And most importantly, it’s comfortable.
At this stage of life, that balance matters more than ever.
Style After 60 Is About Confidence
One of the best things about getting older is realizing something important. You no longer dress for everyone else. You dress for yourself. Fashion becomes less about trends and more about how you feel in what you’re wearing. Comfort, personality, and confidence matter more than anything else. And for me, that means embracing relaxed, easy outfits that feel authentic.
Final Thoughts
Finding my personal style again has been a fun journey. I’m still experimenting. Still trying new pieces. Still figuring out what works best for me. But one thing I know for sure is that style doesn’t stop at any age. In fact, sometimes it just begins again.
